Green initiatives: MINDEF to have energy efficient buildings, hybrid admin vehicles

The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) is introducing measures in line with the government's goal to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate effects of climate change. The NS Hub, set to be completed in 2023, will be the Singapore Armed Forces' (SAF) first net positive energy building. It will feature renewable energy from solar panels, rainwater collection for recycling and a green roof for heat insulation. MINDEF also intends to replace its 400 admin vehicles with hybrid ones by 2023. This will reduce carbon emissions by up to two-thirds per vehicle.
