Prime minister Boris Johnson and fiance Carrie Symonds are expecting a baby

Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds have announced their engagement and that they are expecting a baby in the early summer.

The PM has been dating Carrie Symonds, 31, since early 2019 and made history as the first unmarried couple to live in Downing Street after moving in last July.

A spokesperson for the couple said: "The Prime Minister and Miss Symonds are very pleased to announce their engagement and that they are expecting a baby in the early summer."

Ms Symonds, a conservationist and former Conservative Party communications chief, first made headlines when she was romantically linked to Mr Johnson early last year.
